Ronny Reich, who together with his partner, Eli Shukron, codirected excavations in the City of David for 15 years, may best be described as the accidental author of this book dedicated to Yigal Shiloh’s memory.

Excavating the City of David is published by the Israel Exploration Society and includes pages and illustrations. The book has two major sections (see details below in table of contents). The first reviews the history of excavation in the last years.

The second is a brief history of the City of David. One of the City of David's most ambitious projects is an excavation called the Givati, where the entire history of Jerusalem is being revealed as if the rocks are crying out. Located south of the famous Temple Mount, excavations have revealed it to be a Bronze Age walled city.
